I've always felt a connection with other knitters and crocheters because of my love of fiber. I've always felt a familial connection to those I'm related too - by blood or marriage. It grows with the years. This morning the first two customers were from my home state - New Hampshire. What are the chances of that?
This morning a customer came into the shop and wanted to learn to knit socks. Ta Da!!! as Sadie says.... a woman after my own heart. Of course we teach that. We made arrangements. She gave me her name...and I stopped short. Literally! I thought my heart actually stopped. You see, her married name is my Mother's maiden name. Not a common one at that and almost never heard here in southcentral PA.
NH, Maine, Mass, Rhode Island perhaps; maybe New Orleans very rarely. Canada of course. But PA - almost never. Well today proved me wrong. Now I've got to find the connection. My other passion.
I could spend hours (and have) on ancestry.com researching, reading, trying to determine the correct connection. I use other sites too but there is so much there now. My mother's family was large and apparently so is this new connection. 10-11 children in each. Oh, this will be fun. The only problem is it takes up knitting time and there is so little of it! LOL! Wow! would Honey disagree with that statement. I guess some of this enchantment comes from being an only child - no brothers or sisters to share with so I chart and read and delve into the family history this way.
So now it's back to work unpacking new arrivals; knitting a little; preparing for class and maybe I'll have an hour tonight to get on-line and do some looking!
