Tis the season to...

It's going to start another heat wave here and all I can think about is fall projects. Somehow it feels a little off-kilter but that's retail life! So I dove into a newish pattern - new to me and inspired by another shop owner- that I looked at on Ravelry.com. I gazed at all 196 shared projects and drooled. There's no polite way to say it - I drooled. I dreamed. I saw colors leaping over the fence insted of sheep. I awoke so tired that I must have been chasing the balls of color all night.

And so began the search for the just oh so right yarn. I need a self-striping yarn for MC and one for contrast. I found about 6 colorways to choose from. And then I asked friends and customers for help. Interesting discussions ensued since I have a very limited color range idea for myself. And make no mistake, this one is for me, only me. Some folks favor greens -not my best color unless it's in the blue green family. Soft earthy tones are not for me. Give me the screaming scarlet, or shocking pinks maybe something from another life?) So we narrowed it down to 3 variations - a blues/turq/greenish, reds/green/browns/, PURPLES!!!. And I slept on it. I knew what my choice was but everyone was trying to get me to step outside my comfort zone. That's not easy after 40+years of knitting. So I gazed for a couple of days. And then, I threw out the green selected and went on a search. I exchanged the darker yellow-green for a much lighter shade that isn't so yellowy (word?) and I think I will be happy with it. So Tuesday eve I began. And I can't stop. Every second that isn't filled with something that has to be done is spent working on this. I love it. I've already planned my next one and that one will be made in my comfort zone - just to see if I will enjoy it as much.

So here is a pic of the first night's beginnings. I'll post again in a couple of days.
