Life and other things

My ex-hubby, Forrest Oney, passed away on Thursday, and of course, lots of memories good and bad came rushing in. After a period of time, I chose to remember the good ones. The major one that came to mind was the first time the Camp Hill Band Boosters took on a project of fudge-making. The parents at Bishop McDevitt High School (my alma mater) shared their recipe and philosophy. That was a time-saver for sure. And so we began. Forrest was Booster pres so a lot of planning was done at our kitchen table. Planning for sales, planning for the amount of ingredients, planning to keep the home ec suite as clean as possible, planning to keep the teenagers occupied that were earning work hours, etc. and planning to feed and transport our own around!

Sales were brisk. Folks in Camp Hill and surrounding areas are really supportive. The cooking weekend approached. Friday we moved supplies in. Have you ever tried to lift a 25 lb or 50 lb bag of sugar??? Then we laid plastic on the floors to keep the amount of after-cleaning to a minimum - whoever thought of that was a genius!! And we cooked fudge - chocolate and chocolate peanut butter and peanut butter. And we cooked, and cooked in four hour shifts. Trays stacked up to cool and set. Once set we could cut and box. Everyone worked like they were driven. And we got it done! Three separate weekends that first year - over 3500 lbs of fudge!!

A belated but big salute to all of the adults and teenage band/band front members who worked really hard to make it a big success. And a great big thank you to the man who waded in and brought everyone together - Forrest Lon Oney. If he only knew how much of an impression he made on so many.
