Fall is coming.....

We've had a taste of cool Fall weather and now it's going to get hot again.  But it will cool off soon - I hope!

Knowing that it's coming we've started getting ready here at Colonial Yarn.

New class schedule is out.  We are adding more classes for November & December and that will be out soon.

Of course, Knitters' Day Out is taking some prep time too!  What to wear - oh, what to show too, lol.

And new yarns are arriving all the time.  Here's a sneak peek at some:

We are participating in the Skacel/Knitpurlhunter Scoreboard KAL. Like football?  Got a favorite team whether Pro, college or local?  The pattern will be revealed on Sept 3rd and kickoff is Sept 7th.  Join in the fun!

Then Twizzlefoot from Mountain Colors arrived and we've ordered more already!

Then Titus and Dovestone DK arrived.  Titus is a beautiful  UK BFL, Wensleydale Longwool and Alpaca.

and There's more this week.

Oh, and did I mention that we had a surprise visit from Kay Thompson this morning?? Kay was the second owner of The Colonial Yarn Shop and now has a shop in Ohio.  It was great to catch up.  Of course, we'll see each other in a couple of weeks at Knitters' Day Out!

Can't wait to start some new projects!

Scoreboard KAL

Kickoff is approaching!  Yarn is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.  Team name is Game Gals!  So far, we have Steelers, Packers, 49ers, Redskins, Eagles and Ravens fans.  What's your team?  Any college ones?  or High School?

I've had such a difficult time choosing.  Have traditionally been a 49ers fan for such a long time, through thick & thin.  But those colors just don't do anything for me & grey hair!  So I though how about new England since I'm originally from there. But....

....so hubby joined the fray and offered this tidbit.  He's started following the Seahawks.  You see, he is a Steelton Pa boy!  And the saying goes:  "You can take the boy out of Steelton but you can NEVER take Steelton outta the boy!"  He coached peewee football for years and coached the Hill boys (the Dads).  And we watched both Jordan and Big Cat all thru their high school careers.  Then on the college for both of them.  So now, Jordan Hill plays for the Seahawks.  See where I'm going?  And there's another local boy, Gary Gilliam, too.  So 'Hawks it is - in honor of our local boys!

Who's your fav?

Let us know so we can keep track.  Kickoff is Sept 7th and the pattern is available Sept 3rd.  Join the Scoreboard KAL on Ravelry.com.

Skacel has some great things planned for this season so join up and share in the fun!

Is Fall on the way?

Do a couple of cool days or back-to-school sales make you think Fall is on the way?  Or do you yearn for those crisp cool days and all the smells of Fall?

Yes, it's on the way.  I'm sure we'll have some heat before it turns cool, especially after the kids are back in school!  But it's on the way.

And as it happens every year, yarn starts arriving almost daily.  It really feels like Christmas!

We've re-stocked in Meadow from the Fibre Co and Fino from Manos.  We've also gotten in Twist Light from Madelinetosh.  What's next from them?  hmmmm...

We're finally getting some backorders in Bamboo Pop back in.  Certain colors were so popular they couldn't keep up with the demand.

Next week brings Simplicity from Hikoo.  We are participating in the Scoreboard KAL.  Are you?  Knitpurlhunter has a group on Ravelry.com at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/scoreboard.  I think it's going to be fun if you have a team you follow - Pro, college, or local.  Don't wait too long to pick your colors.  We have the Pro team color chart available.

Then we have some Mountain Colors, then.......  oh my, I can't keep track.

Of course we keep on with preemie caps, chemo caps and knitted/crocheted knockers for our friends at Pink Hands of Hope.

Happy knitting and crocheting!  Hope you are as anxious for Fall as I am.

Knitted Knockers and Pink Hands of Hope

We've had a request from our neighbors at Pink Hands of Hope here in Mechanicsburg, Pa.  Unfortunately, too many women are affected by Breast Cancer and we all know someone. So let's help each other and make a small difference.

They would appreciate any and all efforts to provide hand-knit or crocheted knockers for their clients who have experienced breast cancer.  The patterns are free and can be down-loaded from http://www.ravelry.com/ or obtained here in the shop.  Please use a soft cotton or cotton-blend that is machine washable.

Don't have poly-fil to fill them?  Bring them in and we'll do it for you!  Also please let us know A, B, C, or D size so we can tag them.

Our basket is slowly filling up and I'd be thrilled if we could make it overflow!

Here's the first basket.

and here's the pattern link.  it will take you to all of them and a video on how to fill them.

Thank you once again for showing how much you care about our community.
